This unique Russian Lacquer box Emelya And Magic Pike" was hand painted by one of the prominent Palekh artists - Kuzmenko.

It shows the main characters of the popular Russian folk tale. In short, this tale is about a young man, Emelya, who finds a very special pike that promises to fulfill all his wishes. Here we can see Yemelya riding the stove( many years ago in Russian villages stove served as a bed sometimes) on the lid of the box and different scenes from the story on  each of 4 sides. The box is beautifully decorated with golden ornaments on all five sides. The box is constructed from papier-mache. The work is signed with the artist's name.
