Russian Lacquer box "Moscow Kremlin" was created by talented and well known artist Balakirev, who specializes in painting the architecture of Moscow. In the foreground he depicts the embankment of Moskva River. The central part of the composition shows the red- bricked Kremlin's wall with tall towers. From left to right we can see the following towers of the wall: the Vodozvodnaya Tower, the Blagoveshchenskaya Tower, the Tainitskaya Tower, the First Bezymyannaya Tower, the Second Bezymyannaya Tower, the Petrovskaya Tower and the Moskvoretskaya Tower. Behind the Kremlin's wall we can see (from left to right) the Great Kremlin Palace, the Archangel Cathedral, the Belfry of Ivan the Great and the Assumption Bell Tower.
The composition is painted in the realistic style using various tones of oils. The palette is enhanced by mother-of-pearl inlay, which shines through the Great Palace. The box's sides are decorated with delicate gold line.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, and the village of Fedoskino. The size of tis amazing artwork is 7x3x1.75"
