Russian lacquered box "Lyubava" was hand made and hand painted in Fedoskino village by a wonderful artist Borisova O.
Lubava is a famous Russian legend of a beautiful princess bride of Sadko, a merchant traveler, who is away at sea.She is looking wistfully at the waters waiting for his return. His ship was capsized and ended up at the bottom of the ocean, but miraculously Sadko was alive and met with Neptune - the Tsar of tall oceans. Neptune asked Sadko to play on his gusli(old Russian music instrument similar to harp). After Sadko obliged Neptun liked his music so much that he saved Sadko from the depth of the ocean and alowed him to return safely to his young bride.

Beautiful green, blue, turquoise and gold colors  of the palette of the artwork are accentuated by actual gold and silver powder incorporated in the oil paints used by the talented artist. The box is hinged on the left side and signed on the bottom of the lid with village name, year and signature of the artist. 

The size of the miniature is 4" x 2" x 1.1".
